Grades 9–11 (or equivalent)
Development Advisory
Long-term, individualized mentorship for students building academic direction and depth before application year.
Who it's for
Is this the right fit?
- Students with interests in computer science, AI, engineering, mathematics, the natural sciences or quantitative economics.
- Students who want to go deeper than their coursework through projects, reading, research or competitions that genuinely fit them.
- Families who prefer steady, thoughtful planning to last-minute polishing.
The challenge
The years before application are where substance is built. Without guidance, students can drift between activities chosen for how they look rather than what they teach. Development Advisory helps a student find a direction they care about and build real depth in it, at a pace that respects school, wellbeing and family life.
What it typically covers
Scope and process
- Exploring and testing academic interests before narrowing too early.
- Thinking through course and subject choices in the context of the student's goals.
- Deciding between independent projects, research, competitions and other commitments.
- Mentoring student-owned projects: scoping, milestones, and honest feedback on the work.
- Reading, skill-building and resource suggestions matched to the student's level.
- Periodic check-ins with parents or guardians, and a plan that is revised as circumstances change.
- An early introduction to how applications differ across the US, UK and Singapore, so choices are informed.
The exact scope, cadence and deliverables are confirmed in your private proposal.
- Cadence
- Regular one-to-one sessions at a cadence agreed in your proposal.
- Typical duration
- Typically spans one or more school years before application year; confirmed in your proposal.
- Who you work with
- Delivered personally by our founder and lead advisor. Fulworth does not currently have other advisers; if specialist advisers join in future, their role will be named in your proposal.
- Fees
- Each engagement is scoped around the student's needs. We share program details and a tailored fee proposal following a consultation.
- Separate costs
- Test registration, application fees, competition entries, summer programs and other third-party costs are paid by families directly and are not arranged through Fulworth.
An example roadmap
What an engagement can look like
Stage 1: Start
Understand the student, their interests and constraints; agree priorities for the year.
Stage 2: Build
Choose one or two pathways worth pursuing seriously and plan realistic milestones.
Stage 3: Mentor
Regular one-to-one sessions on the student's own work, reading and decisions.
Stage 4: Review
Reflect on progress each term and revise the plan with the family.
Illustrative only. Every plan is shaped around the individual student.
